How a bathroom installation works, step by step
From the first showroom visit to the final clean, here is exactly how a bathroom comes together — and roughly how long each stage takes.
In short
- ✓A standard installation takes 7–14 working days; wet rooms or structural changes run 2–3 weeks.
- ✓You get a written start and finish date up front, not a vague "few weeks".
- ✓We coordinate design and supply; trusted local installers carry out the fit.
- ✓The order of work matters — waterproofing and substrate prep come before tiling, not after.
How long does a bathroom installation take?
A standard bathroom installation takes 7–14 working days from strip-out to final clean. Larger renovations, wet rooms or jobs involving structural changes can run two to three weeks. Bright Bathrooms agrees a written start and finish date before work begins, rather than juggling several jobs at once.
What order does the work happen in?
Typically: strip-out and disposal, then first-fix plumbing and electrics, any structural or floor preparation, waterproofing in wet areas, tiling, second-fix (fitting the suite, brassware and lighting), then sealing, testing and a final clean. Getting waterproofing and substrate prep done before tiling is what prevents leaks and loose tiles later.
Why the sequence matters
The difference between a bathroom that lasts and one that fails is almost always the order and quality of the hidden stages. Waterproofing must go on before tiling; tiles need a full bed of adhesive, not dabs; waste pipes need the correct fall. We hold the installers we work with to those standards on every job.
What can affect the timeline
Wet rooms add tanking and drainage time. Older properties can need extra floor or pipework preparation. Bespoke or special-order items need lead time before fitting starts. We factor all of this into the written timeline up front so the dates we give you are realistic.
